K. N. Renuka Pujar becomes Karnataka's first transgender guest lecturer, inspiring inclusivity and breaking barriers in academia.

In a landmark move toward inclusivity, Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) in Karnataka has appointed its first transgender guest lecturer, K. N. Renuka Pujar. The 27-year-old will serve in the Kannada Department at the university's Nandihalli campus, setting a precedent for academic institutions across the country.
Renuka Pujar, a resident of Kurugodu in the Ballari district, transitioned during her studies in 2017 while pursuing her undergraduate degree. Undeterred by societal challenges, she went on to complete her Master’s in Kannada in 2022, a milestone she credits to the steadfast support of her parents, who come from an agricultural background.
"After a lot of struggle, I have reached this stage. The university has helped me a lot," Renuka shared, reflecting on her journey. Her parents, despite their limited resources, prioritized her education, providing her with the foundation to achieve her dreams.

Renuka’s appointment follows a rigorous selection process. Among the 30 candidates vying for the guest lecturer position, she emerged as the top choice, impressing the selection committee with her qualifications, academic achievements, and an exemplary lecture demonstration.
University officials commended her dedication and commitment, noting that her appointment symbolizes a shift towards greater representation and equality in academic spaces.
