Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reiterated his government's commitment to women empowerment, citing revolutionary policies over the past decade as a cornerstone of his administration’s agenda. Addressing a public gathering in Panipat, Haryana, the Prime Minister launched the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana,’ a stipendiary scheme aimed at training 2 lakh women as insurance agents over three years.

Highlighting Haryana’s success in adopting the mantra of ‘Ek hain toh safe hain’ (If united, we are safe), Modi praised the state for setting an example in women's empowerment and safety. He announced that the scheme would provide women with a stipend of ₹2.16 lakh over three years while fostering financial literacy and boosting their participation in the insurance sector, which currently stands at less than 28%.

“Bima sakhi, bank sakhi, krishi sakhi, pashu sakhi, drone didi, lakhpati didi may sound ordinary, but they are transforming the fate of India,” Modi said, referring to grassroots initiatives empowering women across the nation.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who introduced the Bima Sakhi Yojana, detailed its benefits, explaining that women aged 18-70 with a minimum education qualification of class 10 would receive a monthly stipend of ₹7,000 in the first year, ₹6,000 in the second year, and ₹5,000 in the third year, along with additional commission earnings from selling LIC policies.

Development Through Women’s Power

Reflecting on his decade-long tenure, Modi noted that revolutionary policies targeting rural women should be a subject of academic research. He highlighted the construction of 120 million toilets since 2014 as a monumental step towards improving the lives of women in rural areas.

“People who weigh everything on the scales of politics are surprised by the increasing blessings of mothers, sisters, and daughters in Modi’s account, election after election,” he remarked, underscoring the pivotal role of women voters in the BJP’s electoral victories in Haryana and Maharashtra.

Horticultural University for Agricultural Excellence

In addition to the Bima Sakhi Yojana, Modi laid the foundation stone for the new campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University in Karnal. With an investment of over ₹700 crore, the campus will span 495 acres and house one College of Horticulture and five schools focusing on ten horticultural disciplines. The institution aims to foster crop diversification, advanced research, and world-class horticultural technologies.

Promises of a ‘Double Engine’ Government

Assuring citizens of accelerated development under the BJP's dual leadership at the state and central levels, Modi vowed to work three times faster in Haryana's third term. He also emphasized continued focus on farmers, noting that ₹14,000 crore was disbursed for paddy, millet, and moong under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme this year alone.

As Haryana embarks on another term under the BJP, Modi’s vision for women’s empowerment and holistic rural development remains central to the government’s agenda, setting a robust roadmap for inclusive progress.
